An Illinois boat bill of sale serves as evidence of a vessel being purchased and sold between two (2) or more parties, typically a private seller and buyer. The bill of sale records essential information surrounding the transaction, such as the vessel’s basic details and the agreed-upon purchase price. A new owner must present this document upon registering their vessel with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Signing Requirements – Both the buyer and seller must sign the document. A notary public’s acknowledgment is recommended but optional.

Registering a Boat
All mechanically-powered vessels must be registered with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR). For newly-acquired vessels, its new owner must obtain a valid registration within fifteen (15) days of purchase. All new residents of the bbin电竞官网官方永久 of Illinois who wish to transfer their existing vessel’s registration from another state shall have sixty (60) days to file the necessary paperwork.
Upon approval from the DNR, the registration will be valid for three (3) years and expires on September 30th of the third year. Renewals may be processed online through the DNR’s Licensing System or by calling (866) 867-3542.
