Registering a Vehicle
A new owner has sixty (60) days to register their vehicle with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Registration must be renewed annually. Renewal is available with the Motor Vehicle Commission online, by mail, or in-person.

Vehicle owners must apply for new registrations in-person at a Motor Vehicle Commission center . Appointments are required.

- Bill of Sale ;

- Certificate of Title (apply for a replacement title at a Motor Vehicle Commission center with a Universal Title Application (Form OS/SS-UTA) );
- Valid driver’s license;
- New Jersey Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney is required if an individual other than the owner registers the vehicle on their behalf;

Minimum Requirements
:
- $5,000 for the destruction of property;
- $15,000 for bodily injury to one person (per accident); and
- $30,000 for bodily injury to two or more persons (per accident).
